Upon Your Hospital Visit

Regarding Health Insurance Cards

First-time patients at the hospital are required to present health insurance cards.

Returning patients must also present their health insurance cards when being seen for the first time each month. Please present your insurance card before being seen at the “Insurance Card Confirmation” counter. (Presenting your insurance card when you settle your account after your consultation will require more time to calculate your bill and add to your waiting time.)

Patients who do not present their health insurance cards, or who have not presented their insurance card for an extended period of time, may be required to pay out of pocket. Patients holding benefit cards (elderly, medical, etc.) must present them with their insurance cards. Please inform the reception desk whenever there is a change to any information on your insurance or benefits (elderly, medical, etc.) cards.

Regarding Payment

You will be given a green folder at the department where you are seen after your consultation. Please take this folder to the “Billing (Folder Reception” counter at the 1st floor outpatient hall.

You will be given an accounting reception slip. Those who have a bill to settle, please wait in the hospital until your hospital pager and your number on the number display board indicate that your bill has been calculated.

It normally takes 10 – 15 minutes to calculate medical fees (it may take longer depending on the time and day of the week).

Medical fees are calculated in the order in which folders are received, however depending on the content of the medical care the order may change slightly. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

When your hospital pager and the number display board indicate your bill has been calculated, please settle your bill at “Payment Window” or an automated payment machine.

Returning the Hospital Pager

Please return the hospital pager at the “ Delivery Window” where your patient registration card, etc. is returned to you. (Those who do not have an account to settle, please return it at the “Billing” window.)

Credit cards and debit cards can be used to pay medical service fees.

Patient Registration Cards

Patient registration cards may be used at any department in the hospital. Please keep it in a secure place and remember to bring it with you whenever you have a consultation at the hospital. If you lose or forget your card, time will be required to confirm with the department you wish to be seen at and to reissue a card, and may result in a delay in your registration at reception.

We require patients to pay out-of-pocket for the replacement of cards that have been lost.

Other requests

Regarding cellular phones

The electromagnetic signals from a cellular phone may cause electronic medical devices to malfunction. We therefore request you turn off your cellular phones in the consultation rooms. Please use cellular phones in such a way that will not inconvenience others in the outpatient hall or hallways where there are no electronic medical devices or other people near.

Regarding smoking

Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the University Hospital, on its grounds, or in any of its buildings. Cigarettes are not sold anywhere on site.

Smoking has a large impact on one’s health, and has been noted as a critical factor in a variety of illnesses, including lung cancer and laryngeal cancer. In addition, smoking not only affects the smoker, but the effects of passive smoking are hazardous to the health of those around the smoker.

As a result, a Health Promotion Law was enacted in May, 2003 requiring measures to prevent passive smoke inhalation by the users of social and public facilities used by large numbers of people.

We hope you understand the necessity to refrain from smoking while at the hospital, and that it gives you an opportunity to choose a healthier lifestyle.

Thank you for your cooperation.
